According to Lemay 1995, vol. III, 469 on li. 433, the Arabic means ‘the horse Centaur’, deriving from Persian asp ‘horse’ and the Greek Κένταυρος. The Arabic term is not documented in Lisān, Freytag, Lane, Dozy and Wehr.
